Why a Newly married Girl is asked to light a “Kuthu Vilakku”*, when she goes to her husband’s home?

(Kuthu Vilukku is a five faced lamp used in homes of Hindu in India, lighted with a cotton thread immersed in Ghee or oil)
It is meant that, lighting the five faces of a Kuthu Vilukku assures the five important virtues, a girl should possess.
You are thinking, what is the link between a girl and Kuthu Vilakku, is it not?
The lotus like base of the Kuthu Vilakku indicates Bramma, the God of Creation.
The centre stem in Kuthu Vilakku indicates Vishnu, the God of Sustaining the creation.
The lamp portion called “Akal”, where ghee is burning, indicates Shiva, the God of Destroying the creation.
The Cotton Thread indicates Sacrifice, the Lamp indicates Thiru Makal, the God of Wealth & Prosperity and the light indicates Kalai Makal, the God of Art & Knowledge.
The five faces in Kuthu Vilakku indicates the five important virtues Love, Knowledge, Firmness, Steadiness and Patience, a girl should have.
Because of this only, a girl is first asked to light Kuthu Vilakku, when she visits her husband’s house for the first time after marriage, to spread light to the entire house through the lamp.
